Why Jonathan Rhys Meyers Could A Great Jagged Fel!

Latino Review, a generally reliable source of entertainment rumors, has recently claimed that JJ Abrams wants Meyers to star in Episode VII. If you look at his IMDB page, you will see that he currently has movies in Post-Production but doesn’t have anything serious slated for filming anytime soon, leaving him conventiently available over the next two years. I’d like to first of all present a few reasons why he could be great for the series, then I’ll explain why I think he would be a great Jagged Fel

Good For Star Wars

Though he has gained recognition for his leading role in Tudors, Meyers hasn’t starred in any major franchises or features, mostly playing supporting roles in films. This is great from a merchandising standpoint because his likeness isn’t already over used by King Henry action figures, so they have a chance to be unique. He also would help bring in alot of European support especially due to his British popularity and Irish Heritage.

Good For Jagged Fel

If the movies take place after the current EU, Jaina and Jag will be in their 30’s and Meyers would be around the right age. Jag has a complicated background, having earned much respect amongst the Empire, being exiled, and regaining standing. Jonathan’s flexibility with his accent can be used to add character to the role and a certain sense of distinguishment. Meyers has displayed his ability to be a trouble leader, in a similar way to how Fel acts, making tough decisions and hiding important information from his own wife. According to the Star Wars Legacy comic series, Fel becomes the new Emperor and starts a dynasty that lasts a hundred years, but we haven’t seen that happen in the novels yet. Could this new saga be the story of the Fel dynasty’s new begining?

Alleged Plot Details Leaked- Don’t Necessarily Believe All Episode VII Rumors

The guys over at Shmoes Knows have reported that supposedly someone close to Abrams has leaked the following excerpt from a supposed casting sheet for the new movie.

Storyline: Two 17 year old twins, a girl and a boy, are trained by their uncle Luke to be the greatest Jedi’s in the galaxy. Problems arise when the male twin turns to the dark side.

Jaina Solo – Female, 17 years old, lead. – Jacen’s twin sister, one of the greatest Jedi’s in the galaxy, trained by her uncle Luke Skywalker

Jacen Solo – Male, 17 years old, lead – Jaina’s twin brother, one of the greatest Jedi’s in the world. A loner who is constantly struggling with the idea of what’s right and what’s wrong. Starts to turn to the dark side. Full of conviction that what he is doing is the “right thing”. Will eventually become Darth Caedus.

Jaina Solo.

If this is true, it would make recent rumors of Florence Welch’s attachment lead me to believe that she is being considered for Mara Jade, and would leave me unsure of who Jonathen Myers could be casted as, as he would probably be too old for my recent prediction of Jagged Fel.

Personally I don’t believe these rumors, they don’t really make much sense. Unless the timeline is being changed. Jacen and Jaina Solo were 18 years old when their brother Anakin died, and at age 17 Jacen was not as described in the call. At 17 he was very uncertain about the Force and his purpose and soon stopped using the force for a period of time because of this uncertainty. His fall to darkness wasn’t until he was about 30, dying at age 32.

I also doubt that these rumors are true because of the fact that the Solo twins were 17 years old right before the Yuzhong Vong showed up, and it is incredibly unlikely that the new saga will be about the Vong series as due to the fact that it is so long and detailed already, and the main stream audience did not respond well to the introduction of the Vong.

I find it much more likely that the series will be as described in earlier rumors, taking place roughly 40 years after the original saga and after the modern Expanded Universe. Most rumors lead us to believe that it will feature the next generation of Star Wars Heroes (Jaina Solo-Fel, Ben Skywalker, and Princess Alanna). This is also more likely due to the fact that it would explain the natural aging of the original cast, and I doubt anyone would believe that they only like 20 years older, as opposed to 40 years older, like they are.

The Rock continuing to campaign for a role in Star Wars (Say’s he would be a bridge between Sith and Jedi)

Of the many actors that have been campaigning for roles in the upcoming Star Wars films, one name that keeps coming back is Dwayne Johnson. Current WWE champion The Rock has expressed a love of Star Wars several times and has further detailed what he would like to do;

“When I was a kid, I (imagined I) was Han Solo and Boba Fett. I would love to do it, sure. I’ve got an emotional connection to Star Wars. So, Jedi, Sith, you got it,”

“Boba Fett could work. But it can’t be the Boba Fett as we know. There’s got to be a cross between a Sith and a Jedi. We’ve got to create it.”

In recent novels there have been a number of characters that stand somewhere in the grey between the light and dark sides of the force, and there have been Mandalorians and clones that were born with force abilities.

I could also see him playing an alien spieces with some special effects work or make-up. He could be a very intimidating Yuzhong Vong or Pureblooded Sith.

BIG RUMORS FROM NERDVANA

All of these are rumors at this point but here is the summary:

“All three of the originals will be back in VII; they all have contracts now.

We’re introducing Han and Leia’s child and grandchild.

No on Yoda, George doesn’t want it. Yoda is a supporting character and will stay that way.

JJ’s contract has a clause for all three movies and an additional three of Lucas/Disney choosing if everyone melds well on the first one. This is typical of these types of contracts; gives everyone an out if needed.

There are three new books we want Timothy Zahn to write.”

I find all of this to be very exciting. This should mean that the child and grandchild are Jaina and Allana! I’m predicting them becoming a master/apprentice duo, and this being a Trilogy for the ladies! And is this a new Zahn trilogy in the making or three seperate novels?

Casting Rumor- Alfonso Cuaron and Simon Pegg are being approached

According to MarketSaw, Children of Men director Alfonso Cuaron may be in talks to work on a Star Wars movie. Though the rumor says that he me be working on episode VIII or IX, it could be possible that he is working on one of the spinoff movies.

Simon Pegg may be in talks for a role in one of the movies. He has been very public about his love for Star Wars and his support for JJ Abrams, not to mention the fact that he voices Dengar in the Clone Wars cartoon series. He would be a great addition to the cast and would definitely fit in with their aim to recapture the spirit of the original trilogy. He’s an actor that is good at keeping intense situations light and comical, but there aren’t any expanded universe characters that I would immediately associate with him and the way that he fit so well as Scotty.

Their insider has said the following;

“As far as I know Episode 7 was then, and is now, focusing on the Skywalker’s offspring. As I told you before, I believe duel personalities develop, akin to Anakin and Obi Wan, and Luke and Vader in the first trilogies, which as far as I am aware, is the driving force behind the new trilogy. Things may change however, but I doubt it, this has been long in the making.

Harrison Ford has been approached, he has not turned it down, and is from everything I hear, very interested in returning to the role of Han Solo again, but is not signed as was reported recently. Negotiating may be a better choice of words right now. Hope it shakes out.

Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were also approached a long time ago, as was ford, and a few other key players. I would all but guarantee, they will be in Episode 7, and I would be confident that Ford will return too. If the universe aligns correctly.

J.J. Abrams mystery cube or whatever he is calling it today, is in full effect, Star Wars news is going to be very thin on the ground for the foreseeable future, but expect Simon Pegg to be involved in some capacity. Can’t say why, but lets just say I have a strong feeling about that.

Star Wars fans, Kathleen and J.J have your interests at heart.
