Latino Review, a generally reliable source of entertainment rumors, has recently claimed that JJ Abrams wants Meyers to star in Episode VII. If you look at his IMDB page, you will see that he currently has movies in Post-Production but doesn’t have anything serious slated for filming anytime soon, leaving him conventiently available over the next two years. I’d like to first of all present a few reasons why he could be great for the series, then I’ll explain why I think he would be a great Jagged Fel
Good For Star Wars
Though he has gained recognition for his leading role in Tudors, Meyers hasn’t starred in any major franchises or features, mostly playing supporting roles in films. This is great from a merchandising standpoint because his likeness isn’t already over used by King Henry action figures, so they have a chance to be unique. He also would help bring in alot of European support especially due to his British popularity and Irish Heritage.
Good For Jagged Fel
If the movies take place after the current EU, Jaina and Jag will be in their 30’s and Meyers would be around the right age. Jag has a complicated background, having earned much respect amongst the Empire, being exiled, and regaining standing. Jonathan’s flexibility with his accent can be used to add character to the role and a certain sense of distinguishment. Meyers has displayed his ability to be a trouble leader, in a similar way to how Fel acts, making tough decisions and hiding important information from his own wife. According to the Star Wars Legacy comic series, Fel becomes the new Emperor and starts a dynasty that lasts a hundred years, but we haven’t seen that happen in the novels yet. Could this new saga be the story of the Fel dynasty’s new begining?
The guys over at Shmoes Knows have reported that supposedly someone close to Abrams has leaked the following excerpt from a supposed casting sheet for the new movie.
Storyline: Two 17 year old twins, a girl and a boy, are trained by their uncle Luke to be the greatest Jedi’s in the galaxy. Problems arise when the male twin turns to the dark side.
Jaina Solo – Female, 17 years old, lead. – Jacen’s twin sister, one of the greatest Jedi’s in the galaxy, trained by her uncle Luke Skywalker
Jacen Solo – Male, 17 years old, lead – Jaina’s twin brother, one of the greatest Jedi’s in the world. A loner who is constantly struggling with the idea of what’s right and what’s wrong. Starts to turn to the dark side. Full of conviction that what he is doing is the “right thing”. Will eventually become Darth Caedus.
If this is true, it would make recent rumors of Florence Welch’s attachment lead me to believe that she is being considered for Mara Jade, and would leave me unsure of who Jonathen Myers could be casted as, as he would probably be too old for my recent prediction of Jagged Fel.
Personally I don’t believe these rumors, they don’t really make much sense. Unless the timeline is being changed. Jacen and Jaina Solo were 18 years old when their brother Anakin died, and at age 17 Jacen was not as described in the call. At 17 he was very uncertain about the Force and his purpose and soon stopped using the force for a period of time because of this uncertainty. His fall to darkness wasn’t until he was about 30, dying at age 32.
I also doubt that these rumors are true because of the fact that the Solo twins were 17 years old right before the Yuzhong Vong showed up, and it is incredibly unlikely that the new saga will be about the Vong series as due to the fact that it is so long and detailed already, and the main stream audience did not respond well to the introduction of the Vong.
I find it much more likely that the series will be as described in earlier rumors, taking place roughly 40 years after the original saga and after the modern Expanded Universe. Most rumors lead us to believe that it will feature the next generation of Star Wars Heroes (Jaina Solo-Fel, Ben Skywalker, and Princess Alanna). This is also more likely due to the fact that it would explain the natural aging of the original cast, and I doubt anyone would believe that they only like 20 years older, as opposed to 40 years older, like they are.
Check out this great video of Michael Arndt working on his first draft of the Episode VII script. If he needs any help, maybe he should talk to Patton Oswalt…
Check out this hilarious clip from the Jimmy Kimmel Show last night where Harrison Ford refuses to talk about his involvement in the new Star Wars movies, even when asked by old friends…
UPDATE 4/17: THIS WAS FAKE! LUCASFILM’S SPOKESPERSON HAS DENIED THE AUTHENTICITY OF THESE DOCUMENTS. I WILL KEEP IT POSTED SO THAT PEOPLE CAN SEE THAT THIS WAS A LIE AND THAT PEOPLE SHOULD REMAIN SKEPTICAL OF ANYTHING THAT THEY HEAR FROM ANYONE THAT IS NOT CURRENTLY EMPLOYED BY LUCASFILM/DISNEY.
In response to a IMDB thread about Dave Filoni’s next Star Wars animated series, one poster claimed;
“might be talking about this. we’d been working on details of it since early last year but didn’t know the details until a few months ago. got the greenlight in january but stopped everything when the layoffs hit. I could probably get in trouble, but oh wait, i don’t work there anymore who knows if this is the same project though, everything was dicey“
He then leaked the following documents which appear to be a vague summary and series of character descriptions for the new series.
I have mixed feelings about this information. On one hand it says the show will be “Making use of decades media as influence.” This leads me to believe that it is going to utilize the Expanded Universe, but does not mention ANY characters from the EU. The only real Star Wars characters mentioned are Leia and Mon Mothma. I also find the mention of Kala Calrissian to be interesting, because she has never been mentioned before, and most illegitimate daughters don’t recieve their estranged father’s last name.
This could be a prank or a canceled Idea. The fact that it mentions level 1313 furthers this in my mind due to the fact that 1313 has supposedly been canceled, as well as the SW Underworld.
Patton Oswalt Proposes Marvel/Star Wars Episode VII Crossover in this 9 Minute Improvised Monologue from Parks and Recreation
Wow. In this weeks Parks and Recreation episode, Patton Oswalt’s character is suppose to be Filibustering, so he improvised an amazing 9 minute straight monologue detailing what Disney could do in Episode VII to connect Star Wars with the rest of their comic universes! Wow what a crazy speech!
The source at Cosmic Book Source is at it again. The same source that has supposedly leaked information about Darth Maul’s Spinoff Movie and Palpatine’s Disciple being the villain in Episode VII has now leaked the following information to the website;
• The new animated Star Wars TV series may focus on the Rebellion taking down the remaining remnants of the Empire spread across the galaxy. It’s said to be similar to The Clone Wars in which it features a large cast of characters and doesn’t focus on a sole group (i.e. Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo).
• The spin-offs films could include original characters and may not be focused on a well known character (i.e. Boba Fett, Han Solo etc).
• However, a spin-off may possibly be set before Episode I for certain characters (i.e. Yoda).
• New video games will be post Episode VI and could be based on the TV Series being developed.
• There will more than likely be video games based on Episode VII, VIII and IX.
Dave Filoni has confirmed that he is developing an animated series for Star Wars, and it would be great to see him doing a show where the good guys will win in the end, and it could serve as a great tool for getting stories from the Expanded Universe into the more mainstream medium.
